Gregory Root and Mary Daphne
Hi, I'm Greg, co-founder and Chief Operating Officer at Explearning, an online platform for developing professional and personal social skills. I have an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and prior to Explearning, I was COO of a New York tech startup, which was acquired in 2018. At that company, we had over 50 employees. But our office in Manhattan was tiny. So how did we make it work? The answer is remote work. In fact, most of our employees worked remotely across the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Learning how to guide and engage our distributed workforce was crucial to our company's success and it taught me a great deal about facilitating effective remote collaboration.
And I'm Mary Daphne, MD for short. I'm co-founder and CEO at Explearning. I have an advanced EdM in Applied Linguistics from Columbia University and prior to Explearning, I ran a marketing department at a global educational conglomerate. I was also a TV anchor for a national news broadcasting company and taught English and Communications for over a decade. During that time, I worked extensively with contractors and clients scattered across the world. My success bridging diverse cultures and expectations in a web-based collaborative environment has equipped me with a unique perspective on managing remote teams.
