Morning Routine: Defining Your Vision

We will follow a simple step by step process to create your morning routine. In this lesson, we will go through the first step, creating your vision.

You will try a simple exercise.

A morning routine is a practice that focuses on small habits that over time contribute to a better life. And these habits can be rooted in your personal aspirations of what you want your life to look like.

Having a vision is an important part of creating any new habit. When we have a clear image of what we're trying to achieve, we are motivated to work towards it. A vision is a personal and aspirational statement that reminds you of what you are trying to achieve. It will keep you inspired to practice your routine every day, and it will help you build a strong habit that lasts in the long-term. So we will create your vision for your morning routine.

Simon Sinek is an inspiring writer who created a model called the Golden Circle. It is a series of three concentric circles. The outer circle contains the word 'what,' the middle circle contains the word 'how,' and the inner circle contains the word 'why.'

In this model, the why is your purpose for doing something, your end goal, your motivation.

When you are beginning something new, you start with the why. That is what inspires you.

For example, imagine a day when you wake up tired, or you don't want to go out running because it's raining outside. If you keep your end goal in mind, you're much more likely to stick to your morning routine.

It's crucial to start with this step as all of your morning routine will be designed to get you a little bit closer to your big vision.

Your task: Let's try an exercise, and this is one of my favourites.

You're going to complete the sentence: wouldn't it be amazing if…?

For instance:

  • Wouldn't it be amazing if I meditated every day?
  • Wouldn't it be amazing if my mornings were filled with healthy habits?
  • Wouldn't it be amazing if I had time to be creative before I went to work?

Now it's your turn. Think about your motivation for coming to this course:

  • Why do you want a morning routine?
  • What are you trying to achieve?
  • Why is this important to you?

Use these prompts to answer the question 'wouldn't it be amazing if…?

Take some time to reflect on the goal or goals that you're trying to achieve with your morning routine.

You don't need to worry about what it should be, or what others are doing.

It can be one, or a few.

Your goals need to be meaningful to you, that is all.

You will end up with one or a few big ideas that inspire you. They may not be very practical at this stage, but that is okay, we'll address that later. The key is that your vision reflects where you want to get to with your morning routine.

When you have your goal or goals, you've completed the first step in creating your morning routine.

In the next lesson, we will take your vision and come up with lots of ideas. I'll see you there.
