The Hidden Dangers of Adoption Myths

Most myths are fairly innocuous, however, adoption myths can damage adoptees. False assumptions, misinformation, and inaccurate knowledge make it impossible for adoptees and adoptive families to receive the support and validation they need and deserve. Myths trivialize the magnitude of the emotional pain that adoptees feel as a result of being relinquished. This causes adoptees additional, unnecessary suffering that leaves them feeling invisible, objectified, and invalidated.
