We all know that a video is a powerful tool for marketing, and your Upwork profile is no exception. It's currently the best and easiest way (believe it or not) to stand out amongst the crowd, because simply put, most people just won't bother using it.
I personally recommend you record a good old face to camera video, where you talk directly to the client. I would treat it as an extension of your profile, where you can highlight your passion for what you do, the why behind your business, as well as your most important skills and achievements. And remember what I said back in lesson 2 – don't just talk about yourself. Don't be afraid to ask the client questions or show that you understand their struggles and goals. And smile, because just like your photo, you want to look happy and approachable – not to scare clients away.
Now, I do understand not everyone is comfortable on video, and that's ok. I would still encourage you to at least try it out, even if you don't end up posting it, but know that you do have other options. You can do a mix of face to camera and screen sharing, or you can show a presentation with a VoiceOver, or even just show off a video portfolio. This last one would be especially good for video editors, graphic designers, and anyone with a more visual portfolio.
Nowadays, there are so many websites and tools out there to help you create awesome eye-catching videos that you really have no excuse for not having one. And if all else fails, you can hire a freelancer to do it for you! Talk about coming full-circle, right?
The most important is that you find a way to grab your client's attention and then show them what you can do for them.
